Sensex, Nifty volatile; cement stocks on buyers’ radar

The market continued to be choppy in noon trade but the market breadth was positive that helped BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rise 0.3-0.5 percent.

The 30-share BSE Sensex declined 9.83 points to 24675.59 and the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 5.80 points to 7552.25. About 1253 shares advanced against 864 declining shares on Bombay Stock Exchange.

Adrian Lim of Aberdeen Asset Management is positive on India, says India is amongst the top three exciting markets while Sakthi Siva on Credit Suisse remained underweight on the country as she sees sliding return on equity and valuations as key concerns.

Most Asian markets are trading in red as risk-off sentiment returns but Nikkei gained about half a percent. Oil prices rose on firm global growth data with Brent trading higher by 2 percent today.

Cement stocks rallied smartly today after strong sales data from Sagar Cements. The company said March cement production grew by 42 percent at 2 lakh tonnes with Telangana sales rising 119 percent and Andhra Pradesh up 135 percent but Karnataka & Tamil Nadu sales declined.
