Equity benchmarks remained choppy in noon trade, with the Sensex hovering around 31,000 level after hitting record high.
The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 39.15 points at 31,067.36 and the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 1.50 points at 9,596.60.
The broader markets underperformed benchmarks, with the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices falling 0.7-1 percent. The market breadth remained negative as about two shares declined for every share rising on the BSE.
ITC, HDFC, Reliance Industries and HUL continued to support the market, up 1-2.5 percent while Sun Pharma tanked 11 percent post earnings.
Adani Ports lost nearly 5 percent followed by Infosys, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Wipro.
